1 WEEK TILL SHOOT.

this week i have to:

1. final story board, shot for shot.
2. make sure everything is preperaed and secured in place ie: actors props timescales.
3. make sure everything is ready to go by saturday.

Monday

Overcoming problems

So i have managed to get accsess to private land which cancels out the threat of having to take firearm props on public land. which is a huge hurdle leaped. So all i have to do now is storyboard and shoot the film

Precautions.

The Sand dunes is a public place. however, due to the nature of the film i am going to have to equip myself with information that can eb displayed to passers by that shooting is in progress. i will have to make clear signs that tell the public that we are shooting a film, as props will be being used which the public may find distressing or offensive.

Costume.

So my actors in the film will need costume.

I have managed to obtain quite alot of old military gear but i feel a true post apocolytpic costume would have to be a mix of old military gear and everyday clothes, so it looks liek the characters have collected the appropiate gear they need on their travels.

Storyboarding.

I ahve never really constructed my own story board so i have been research the best way to do it.

i feel i need information on shooting aswell as a general plot.

this webstie i found has many simple templates for storyboards so i will be printing a few off and filling them out accordingly.

Location shots.

I plan to shoot the film in the dunes in my hometown, there desolate and you cant really see anythign for miles, which i think will be a pretty good location for the film.

Storyline.

So here is a basic plot of my film.

We have a main character (un-named) who is a survivor of the cold war, in which missiles were fired and destroyed the world as we knew it.

Our character lives in england, which has been totally crushed by nuclear missiles.

Now wandering the wastelands, he lives in a constant struggle for survival, collecting what he can find, wheater it be food, water weapons or relics.

However he is not the only one out there, he has to hide and dodge from other survivors who horde in gangs across the wasteland.

Fallout 3

Fallout 3 is game that puts you as a player in the eyes of a character who has survived nuclear attack in the 1940's. The game it's self is massive, you wander around a bleack wasteland that was washingtion D.C. encountering freinds, enemies monsters of radiation etc.

For me the experience of playing this game fuelled my idea for making a film as the game is so immersive and delicate that you collect food and water to survuve.

Reaseach

There is a vast variety of cinema to help me come up with ideas

here are a few vital scenes which i think send the message of post apocolyptic scenarios most effectively.

28 Days later for me is one of the defining pieces of film of this subject, even though the main content is zombies(which i will be strongly avoiding) its opening scene where the character is wandering around a deserted London, i find it deeply chilling and striking, hopefully i will be able to express this sort of desolation in my film.

The road is a more recent production and strongly displays a world destroyed. It contains scenes which i find as defining points in where i want my film to be headed, its desolation, the fact humans act liek animals and the sheer respect for somethign as trivial as a can of coke. These are all aspects that i want to include in my film.

Research.

What is a post apocolyptic story?

Post apocolyptic storylines take place in the aftermath of a disaster - typically nuclear holocaust, war, plague - that justifies a civilization's turn towards dystopian like behaviors. Although not a requisite, most post-apocalyptic visions have a man-made cause.

What is Dystopia?

Dystopia is the opposite of utopia, in which human civilisation has been diminished and whatever is left is usually violence ,crime, poverty and suffering.

As a filmmaker i plan to set out and make a short film about how one man struggles in a wasteland, encoutering others and fighting illness, disease, dehydration etc.

Initial ideas.

So i have drawn up a list of possible ideas for my film.

It is goign to be a narrative based on a lone character, male or female ( i havent decided yet) but they we be the main protagonist in my story.

I plan for the film to be a document in the life of someone trying to survive in a product of nuclear war.

It is essential the film is not over dramatic or over glamourised, i want the effect to be slighty tense but emotional.

I plan to storyboard some ideas.

i plan for the film to be no longer than half an hour.

Visual Language. The brief

The Brief stands as two parts. to create a "book" and to exhibit a piece of work. I have decided to make a short dramatic film based on post-apocolypictia. As i find this is a good basis for the word "collect" as it would be a basis for survival in such a world.

I will then Present the film through some sort of display in the Exhibition.
